‘Construction Phase’ Likely to be Part of Designer’s Duty
Mr Bob Stensholt MP, in a review of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, has recommended that the scope of the duty of designers of buildings or structures be expanded to cover the construction phase of the building or structure. The BDAV will be monitoring this matter, to assess the impact and consequences on a building designer’s duty under section 28 of the Act.

BDAV Award Entries on Display at Federation Square
View the entries in the BDAV’s 2008 Building Design Awards competition. These will be on public display at Federation Square, Melbourne, from 9–16 July 2008.
BCA 2009 Draft Proposals Available for Comment
The draft changes for the 2009 edition of the Building Code of Australia (BCA 2009) have been placed on the Australian Building Codes Board’s website for public comment and to give BCA users advance notice of proposals that may take effect from 1 May 2009. Comments, which close on Friday, 1 August 2008 must be sent to BCA2009@abcb.gov.au. Further details: www.abcb.gov.au
NATSPEC Seminars
NATSPEC is holding seminars across the country in July and August on two topics: Specification Writing: Using NATSPEC, and Specification Word Processing and Production. Increased Wage Rates for Architectural Draftspersons
Members should note that the wage rates for the Draughting, Production Planners and Technical Workers Award have been increased, effective from the first pay period commencing on or after 1 October 2007. This award governs wages and conditions for architectural draftspersons. Details have been posted to the 'Member Only' section of this website, for the use of BDAV Members.
