Mulgrave Project

Nagy Design Pty Ltd for Mulgrave Project

“The clients needed to accommodate an economically-conscious and growing family without compromising the much loved cathedral ceilings, out door entertaining and garden areas of their Mulgrave home,” said Zol Nagy. “They had a budget of around $100,000 for this renovation.”

“The design conclusion was a double storey construction positioned toward the rear quarter section of the existing house, allowing all habitable and living rooms to retain existing cathedral ceilings. The extension could suspend partially over the rear yard supported by posts, which would then create a covered patio area.”

“Styling was going to be as unique as the clients. An eclectic combination of materials and angles, and the ridge line concealing a large portion of the addition.”

“Using in-vogue lightweight materials such as shadow-clad texture, Colorbond custom-orb enabled the small budget to be achieved. Balance and presence was brought about by protruded roofing and covered entry section which would also complement the new staircase,” said Zol.

“This project has won this award for the Designer’s clever application of a controlled design discipline that met the challenges of a small budget,” said Geoff Hoare, Chair of the Judging Panel. “Nagy Design solved some challenging problems, including a lack of space and the risk of excessive building bulk. The resultant building is creative in its simplicity. Its features of form and finish create a pleasing design that belies the budget difficulties.”
