“The Peninsula School at Mt Eliza is a co-educational day and boarding school, from early childhood to Year 12,” said Richard Berg of Eliza Designs. “Our original brief was to design a traditional pavilion style building that would not date, which could be used for multiple purposes:

  • to house the Peninsula School Old Boys Football and Cricket Teams;
  • to have a function centre that could hold up to 250 people for both school and non-school activities;
  • to be used by the school as an examination room;
  • on the upper level, the two areas had to have flexibility of size so they could used separately.”

“The finished building has two change rooms, kiosk, manager’s office, storage areas at the lower level, and a tiered spectator seating overlooking the oval. The upper level houses a function centre that has a large covered decked area that overlooks the oval. The main room can be one large area or divided into two smaller areas by an operable wall. On this level there is an entrance foyer, two large bars, a commercial kitchen that can service both areas separately, including storage, and toilets,” said Richard.

“The design of this sporting pavilion for The Peninsula School is a excellent blend of traditional styling and modern functionality,” said Geoff Hoare, Chair of the Judging Panel. “Its successful response to the clients brief has enabled the facility to become a multi-functional space that the school can use for its primary purpose, and also allows the wider community to use it as a community centre.”
