Dennington Renovation

Prior to renovations, the house was a sad, tired building which had been relocated to the site some eight years earlier. The brief was to consolidate living areas, sleeping areas and utility areas so the house could be zoned. Previously, all bedrooms lead off the only living space. This impeded sound proofing, as the client has four children. The other major deficiency was lack of connection to the north, which held rural views. Secure play areas, study space, maximising storage and be child-friendly were paramount to the client. The renovations also had to maintain and enhance the history of the building, while providing a modern clean environment. The designer's skill is evident in this transformation of a nondescript, relocated dwelling into a delightful house which is full of interest and life. Through careful re-planning the house has effectively been re-oriented to take advantage of rural views, and has been anchored to the site with appropriate landscaping. In spite of a low budget, the interiors are sophisticated and a sense of fun prevails with a fresh colour palette.
