The Marcus Beach house, 10 minutes south of Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, sets a new benchmark in the history of the BDAV Building Design Awards. This project won five awards, including the 2006 Building Design of the Year.

Wilson ID have clearly demonstrated significant skill in the use of a myriad of materials; in the design of the floor plan and facade elements; and in responding to the client brief to “avoid the obvious”.

The design elements used in the project culminate to provide a dynamic visual experience, and create a sublime living environment. The design theme, and the materials and colour palette, have clearly evolved from and evoke the beachside context; and which fully embraces the opportunities presented to the designer by the local temperate climate.

The Judges agreed that Wilson ID have fulfilled the client’s brief. They have avoided the obvious. They have used materials in a way which is not typical in domestic construction, and they have provided a detailed, robust architecture. Through the innovative and skilled use of concrete, timber, steel and glass, Wilson ID have created a contemporary design with stunning success.

This project was also winner of:

  • 2006 Building Design of the Year
  • Residential Interior Design
  • Most Effective Use of Timber
  • Best Bathroom Design
