Residential renovation projects don't often allow the designer to truly transform a home. The winner of this year’s Best Residential Additions and Alterations ($200K-$500K) is an exceptional exception.

Engaged to undertake conceptual design, working drawings, product specification, interior design and oversee construction, the designer has delivered a magnificent transformation from a ‘run of the mill’ rural home in Warrnambool to a ‘modern bush beauty’.

The end result is a rustic exterior that complements its natural surrounds, and an exquisite interior that continues to draw on the same theme. Large glassed sections provide spectacular views across the valley and surrounding forest, and bathe the transformed interior with light and airiness, connecting the internal space with the expanse of its location.

An inspirational home office environment, transitional library, hidden entrances (behind sliding book cases), exquisitely designed and finished kitchen and bathrooms, custom designed features and intelligent materials selection combine to transform this old shack into a ‘real bush Cinderella’.

This project also won Most Innovative Kitchen Design, as well as Most Innovative Use of Timber.
