This CPD seminar held on Monday, 23 May 2011 features Dr Peter Lyons, PhD, one of Australia’s most respected experts in windows, who spoke about window modelling and thermal performance of windows, and the impact of glass performance on rating results.

This CPD seminar, held on 2 May 2011, featured Peter Sandow, Architect, of FMSA Architecture who presented a number of case studies of design projects on which his firm has worked, which have an environmental sustainable design focus, which has been the foundation of the firm’s design approach. The event also featured Royston Wilson, of Royston Wilson Design, who spoke about his award-winning St Kilda West project.
 

This CPD seminar, held on 4 April 2011 featured Kevin Hui who presented the fundamental basics of SketchUp Pro,
a 3D modelling software for professionals. Kevin is a building designer who teaches architectural design at various universities. He has been using SketchUp since 2002. Kevin is the Google authorised distributer and training person in Australia for SketchUp Pro.

This CPD seminar, held on 7 March 2011, featured presentations from Tait Timber and Hardware, Locker Group, and Craft Metals of some of their respective materials which can assist design professionals with innovative design solutions.

This CPD seminar, held on 7 February 2011, deals with the new Premises Standard which will be introduced in the Building Code of Australia, effective from 1 May 2011.  The Premises Standard will improve access to buildings and achieve consistency between building law and the Disability Discrimination Act.

This CPD seminar, held on 13 September 2010 was presented by Simon Divecha, a respected environmentalist and climate-change advocate. Simon spoke about sustainability developments and considered a range of issues that aimed at reducing carbon footprint and greenhouse emissions.

was presented by Brett Blacklow, designer of The Smarter Small House, and John Eckert from Mirvan who spoke about their Harmony 9, 90star energy home. The speakers were organised courtesy of James Hardie Australia. The seminar was highly acclaimed by those who attended.

This seminar, held 12 April 2010
dealt with fire safety requirements and design.  Angus Mair, the Fire Safety Officer at the CFA Westernport Area, spoke about portable fire hydrants, fire hose reels, and portable fire extinguishers, highlighting the importance of location of these items at places easily accessible by occupants of buildings who may be potential fire victims. Michael Duce from Clevertronics also spoke about emergency lighting.

BDAV CPD seminar featured well-known timber industry expert, Malcolm Johnston, who gave a comprehensive overview of hardwood processing, and discussed how timber is a sustainable and renewable resource. The event - which was highly acclaimed - was supported by a presentation from Tony Pepper of
Tait Timber & Hardware.

Presented on 9 November 2009, this BDAV CPD seminar featured building consultant, Stuart McLennan, who dealt with a number of topical building matters, including the ABCB Glazing Calculator, Regulation 608 compliance, Bushfire Attack Level Assessment, and related matters.

Presented by Jeffrey Wilson, Partner, Deacons Lawyers on 7 September 2009, spoke about contract administration, using the new suite of BDAV Contracts as the primary focus. He also explained the Security of Payments legislation and how it works in Victoria.

Presented on 1 March 2004, this BDAV CPD Seminar featured Wayne Floyd of Floyd Energy who explained glass characteristics and the importance of using the correct glass/window frame combination.

Presented on 3 March 2008, this BDAV CPD Seminar featured BDAV Executive Officer, Brian Morison, who gave an update on Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004 which relates to the Duty of Designers of Buildings and Structures that are used as workplaces, followed by case studies by Roy Hodgson, FBDAV.

Presented on 2 June 2008, this BDAV CPD Seminar featured an expert panel of planning professionals who presented a panel discussion illustrating key principles for the success of planning permit applications. Presentations included how to interpret the Heritage Overlay (HO) controls and their affects on your application, including how to find HO details specific to your site; Local Planning Policy and its affect; when you can demolish or not; and when you can construct and carry out works.

Presented on 8 September 2008, this BDAV CPD Seminar featured Geoff Hoare, FBDAV, in which he outlined some interesting research findings conducted locally and overseas about the deterioration in the quality of documentation. Geoff also referenced information that emerged from a recent Building Commission audit which identified deterioration of documentation quality by registered draftspersons.

In the wake of the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, this BDAV CPD Seminar, held on 6 April 2009, featured Paul England of Bodycote Warringtonfire (Aus) Pty Ltd, who spoke about the new bushfire standard and related matters, including the new test methods. In addition, John Shaw from the Building Commission spoke about the regulations and related matters.

Presented on 1 June 2009, this BDAV CPD Seminar featured a panel of four of Australia's most successful design professionals who shared some of their marketing advice, including "what's worked" and "what hasn't" in terms of their marketing. This presentation provides a great opportunity for designers to re-assess their own marketing strategy.
