To clients wanted to design an integrated renovation and addition to the rear of their heritage house while utilising the retained natural assets of the house and garden. The front of the heritage house has been restored as the formal living areas, while contrasting with the new contemporary additions to the informal rear spaces.
The contemporary, recessive, double storey extension to the existing 1930s art deco dwelling has been sensitively treated to ensure the integrity of the heritage dwelling has been retained.
The design response has skillfully balanced the existing heritage fabric with the needs of modern living and a well designed, contemporary building form to the rear.
The new works are primarily concealed from the streetscape, with only the garage and bedroom building form visible from an extensive distance to the street.
Both externally and internally, the transition points from old to new occur seamlessly, resulting in a home that provides for the needs of modern living standards whilst conserving the existing built form integrity.
