Whilst the word 'innovation' can sometimes be used carelessly, there is no doubt that the designers of this residence dared to step outside the square.

Glass – in all its form and glory – has been utilised extensively throughout this Japanese-inspired property. Traditional forms of Japanese buildings took great care to be light-filled and open to the elements. Glass was the right medium to achieve this style and has been incorporated within the louvers, frosted privacy screens, multiple bi-fold doors and double-glazed windows, which serve to flood the house with light and breezes.

The jewel in the crown, however, is the library space which ingeniously uses glass in a structural way to create the image of floating book shelves, whilst also providing a light filled and unique sitting area.

The Williamstown project is indeed a worthy winner.
