Complex and competing requirements of Heritage Victoria, relevant planning controls, community concerns and client’s aspirations provide an incredible challenge on a job of this size. The outcome here is a flagship project highlighting the diverse and extensive capabilities of the BDAV’s membership. The iconic Dimmeys site in Richmond has been skilfully transformed into a modern, mixed-use development capturing all the vibrancy of its locale whilst carefully protecting the significant heritage fabric treasured by the local community. The siting of the multi-storey residential component ensures view lines to the historic clock tower are maintained from almost every vantage point. The multi-storey residential tower delivers outstanding amenity to residents. The 360° balconies and terraces provide expansive uninterrupted views, as well as passive surveillance over the busy streets and train station below. The restoration of the two-storey heritage façade and commercial fitout ensures this well-known Richmond feature will retain its ‘landmark status’ and remain relevant for decades to come.
