Joint Winner Excellence in Use of Glass

Designer: JFK Design Landscape/Buildings/Interiors
Builder: Rock City Building Group
Photographer: We Shoot Buildings and Tom Roe Photography
Location: Brighton, VIC

The transparency and lighting effects of glass in this home create mood, warmth and interest in every space. Custom-commissioned blown glass pendants by artist Laurel Kohut dot the house, creating moments of colour in an otherwise restrained palette of charcoal, timber and grey. Well shaded north facing sliding glazed panels create interchangeable indoor and outdoor connections in the living area, whilst carefully sized and proportioned windows frame the views and give excellent daylighting. A slumped glass wall separates bathroom and powder rooms, radiating an ephemeral light enhanced by the frameless glass shower and wall-to-wall skylight. Creative use of glass ensures natural light enters internal spaces whilst maintaining privacy. Light pendants, windows, screens, balustrades, mirrors and furniture are all meticulously detailed to create a home with an inner glow.
