Rethinking the traditional brickwork bond with a traditionally-used bullnose clay brick has resulted in a contemporary, playful, yet sophisticated front façade to the Koala Childcare Centre. The repeated pattern created with the Austral ‘Chapel Red’ clay brick with a single bullnose and white mortar provides an eye-catching, yet simple façade. The feature-wall pays tribute to the old red clay bricks from the 1835 South Campus building; however, clearly defines the contemporary new building. This project stands as a great example of design reshaping our buildings with new interpretations of traditional products.
